Cloughjordan Tidy Towns Group Cloughjordan Tidy Towns Summer 2010 Newsletter (pdf) available to download - Click here Cloughjordan is a beautiful town with its lovely old buildings, the tranquil meadow at its centre and the woods, rivers and bogs surrounding it. It is a little jewel at the very heart of the country, and it deserves to be kept perfect.
Cloughjordan Tidy Towns group, part of Cloughjordan Community Development, is made up a small number of volunteers which undertakes projects regularly from early spring to midsummer. The town takes part in the national Tidy Towns Competition, and we have been praised in several of the judges’ reports. We plant up and look after flower beds on the approach roads to the town and the half-barrels on Main Street. In 2009 we replanted the triangle on the Step Road, removing tired and straggling bushes and replacing them with a silver birch and carpet roses.
In partnership with Iarnród Eireann, the Tidy Towns group has ‘adopted’ the railway station, so we cleared and landscaped the area around the car park and got rid of the weeds. Iarnród Eireann painted the station building at our request, and we painted ‘windows’ on the boards, as well as painting the gates, doors and signs on the station. We also installed and planted up two flower troughs and a large flower bed.
